A lot of people have memories of watching telethons. Maybe the telethon covered up the normal times where you would have watched something else like your favorite show, your favorite sport, or maybe even your favorite cartoon. It is always good to have reliable people who you know will back you up because they believe in what your organization does. The best thing to do is to find a donor who will match the donations. You get a donor that you know will match those donations. You want that because it will maximize the value you will get from those people. It also helps people feel like they might be the next donation to push your charity over the goal. Some people do not want to be the first but most want to be the deciding factor in whether or not you make your goal for their own edification. Therefore, you can make sure that you are getting the people who do not want to be first and those people who want to be the last little bit to get your goal.
Once you maximize that area then you can focus on getting new people in and getting them to donate. You can always hope that your telethon is going to go viral but you should always be honest with yourself. It, probably, will not. Therefore, you need to do your due diligence beforehand to make sure that you are marketing it properly. You will have to dig your well before you need it or work with someone who has already dug the well for you.
A lot of other businesses will help you by donating, sponsoring, or by partnering with you for publicity. The world may be a little light on positive news. You may be able to get a little bit of media attention. If you are able to do so then doing business with you is much more favorable to other businesses. Businesses who want that attention too. If you can hook your event to something topical in your area locally then your news stations or newspapers may want to have a closer look at what you are doing. That becomes a hook to get businesses to join in the fundraising or sending their base to you. Of course, there are going to be varying degrees of success but every little bit of help is good. If you can pull together several businesses then those 5-10 people who show up can add up to 100 or more.
Finally, another thing to think about is if you are using the proper giving platform. What you do not want is hidden fees. Getting people to the telethon, getting people on camera to run it, people to pick up phones to take donations, and entertainment is a lot. The last thing you need is for your giving company to take all of your hard-earned donations. The truth is that a lot of them charge a lot for this service. In fact, the hidden fees can really bog down the experience. You need to make sure that you look at this closely. If they trick you once then that is fine. However, you need to make sure that they do not do it again. Do this by finding someone else who can do the job better and for less.
